After creating my layout, the idea behind my imagery changed and I wanted to create something quite unique and quirky. I had the idea to use feminine and simple colours to represent how Anna Lyndsey could be using her condition as way to get attention and so this can be seen as something quite glamorous. As well as this I decided to use this particular colour scheme because it made me think of flesh and skin, which is two important elements within the article.
Whilst creating my layouts I also decided to pull out quotes that stood out to me and that would be interesting to base my images around them. I believe my images are very implicit and they definitely make you question why I decided to create them this way. As well as this the implicit images grab your attention and make you want to read the article to understand their meaning.
To create the images I took several portraits of my friend, and then put them through Photoshop, adjusted the grayscale, contrast and brightness. Once I was happy with the images I then used a mixture of oil paints and ripped paper to create the unusual textures. With the first image I wanted to include the element of burning, I decided to burn a hole over the face in the portrait and then place that on top of the textured paint, to give the gruesome feel of raw skin.
I am very happy with the images, they’re all quite consistent and they go with the quotes successfully in my opinion. However I could have used better lighting to capture the images so that the different effects are shown more effectively in some places. I also believe I could have experimented with more ripped pages and collage within some the images, for example I could have used more pictures of eyes in the last image to show the psychological effect even more.
